そのうち一つが「From the Earth to the Moon」。俳優でかつ宇宙オタクでもあるTom Hanksが統括し製作された、HBOのドキュメンタリーシリーズです。実は私も宇宙計画が大好きで、機会あるごとにKenedy Space Centerで書籍やDVDを買い漁っています。全部で12話のストーリが入っていますが、どれも本当にあったエピソードが組み入れてあり、彼のマニアぶりには恐れ入ります。
英語字幕のついた本国版。日本語版と合わせて私は持っています（笑
出国前、英語の勉強に疲れたときは、これを見て気分転換をしました。
収録されているうちの一話に、月着陸船（Lunar Module：通称LM、時にLunar Excursion Module:LEMとも呼ばれる）を開発した米Grumman社（現Northrop Grumman）のエピソードがあります。
Kennedy Space Centerに展示されているLEM。（ほぼ）本物。
LMの開発はその複雑さのため、アポロ計画の一部を変更したほどに大変難航しました。その開発責任者、Tom Kellyが、完成したLMをNASAに引き渡す時の言葉がとても印象的です。

A LEM is not a child, it's a machine, and a machine doesn't have a soul.
We may yell at our toasters and give a name our cars, but in the end even a LEM is just a collection of wires.. and circuits and nuts and bolts.
I don't know. I think each LEM does have a soul. It's a soul of all the people who built her, designed her, first dreamed of her...
